Station Approach Consultation - Having YOUR say

February 17, 2013 2:00 PM

Epsom Station has undergone a redevelopment over the past 2 years. Works will soon be completed and Surrey County Council needs to allocate road space in Station Approach to meet the needs of the different users. This includes buses, "Hackney Carriages" (Taxis) and loading facilities for businesses and residents.

SCC Highways Engineers have already consulted with local councillors, taxi drivers, bus representatives, Surrey Police, Southern Rail and Epsom & Ewell Borough Council, to develop a their proposed new solution for the road layout in Station Approach.

In order to accommodate the needs of the various groups they propose to remove the pedestrian crossing outside the station and close the gap in the central reserve. The extra road space created by removing the pedestrian crossing and its associated zig zag markings will mean that both buses and taxis can be accommodated outside the station entrance. In addition, the proposed layout includes the provision of loading facilities serving the new businesses and residential accommodation. The existing crossing at the junction of Waterloo Road would be widened and improved.

Their proposed new road layout is shown below. For a larger copy click on the link here for a PDF version.

The SCC Highways Engineers need to know YOUR views on this proposal.
