A leaf collection service will start in autumn 2010

The Borough Council is to offer a leaf collection service from late September 2010. It will be open to everyone to subscribe.

Reusable "leaf" sacks will be delivered to everyone who subscribes (the cost will be £4 per sack per season) and they will be emptied fortnightly during the period of leaf fall alongside the garden waste (brown bin) service. A household wanting three sacks collected during this period will thus pay £12 for the period of collection. Customers will be encouraged to retain the sacks for use the following year when the subscription will become payable again.

This service will replace the previous free collection of leaf bags in certain roads. The new scheme will ensure that leaves can be composted along with garden waste. Brown bins can also, of course, be filled with leaves during the autumn.
