Locals got together and cleared litter from the railway cutting

Fed up with walking past piles of litter accumulated over decades, a group of residents living near the Mill Road railway cutting land embarked on clearance themselves.

Locals got together on a sunny Saturday and collected 30 bags of cans and bottles, about the same amount of plastic bottles and various other debris including a wheelbarrow, road bollards, road cones, a 10' blind, hub caps and more! Ownership of the land is unclear since it was sold by British Rail two years ago. It is thought to be badger habitat.

The borough council kindly arranged to collect all the rubbish a couple of days later.

Do you know of an area which needs litter-picking? If the owner is known the borough council can write to them. If ownership is in dispute the council may be able to organise a litter pick but failing that, if you would like to get local residents together to do the job, contact Julie Morris for more info.
