Three schools in our borough are creating more places for pupils from September 2009

With local schools being expanded this year, and others expected in the next few years, Cllrs Anna Jones and Colin Taylor, together with county council candidate Diana Coman, are leading the way in a dialogue with local residents over concerns about traffic and safety.

Wallace Fields Infants School will be taking an extra 30 pupils from September 2009 and with safety already an issue in Wallace Fields itself, Anna Jones has already met with the Head Teacher. With a serious road traffic accident near to the school in recent months (thankfully without injury), Diana Coman will be discussing possible traffic calming and safety options with the County Council. The School itself is already geared toward children walking or cycling to school and may consider a "walking bus" scheme. Wallace Fields Junior School, situated nearby, may well also need to expand in the near future and residents are already in contact with Anna and Diana about parking issues.

In Court Ward, Southfield Park Primary School is in discussions with the councils about extra land that may be needed in order to expand. Cllr Colin Taylor has been involved in arranging for a public meeting at the School to be held on 8th June, at which various issues concerning the Livingstone Park area are likely to be raised, including school expansion plans, as well as the future of Horton Chapel.

Anyone with concerns about education proposals which involve local schools should contact Colin or Diana.
