Noise Nuisance Reporting

December 22, 2011 10:00 AM

noiseThere's good news for anyone who wants to report a noise nuisance to the council: they have agreed to provide an on-line reporting system.

Town centre residents are known to have lost confidence in the council's ability to deal with out-of-hours complaints about noise; some are believed to have simply given up reporting problems.

Cllr Alison Kelly who represents Town ward discovered that some complaints about noise were not being included in the statistics of the complaints system.

As a result, it will now be easier in future for town centre residents who suffer disturbance in the small hours to report each incident via a system that will ensure that all such reports are logged and can be used when dealing with licensing issues.

Previously many town centre residents have suffered noise nuisance well after midnight when some 5 nightclubs were operating in the town centre. However unless their calls to the council were routed via the contact centre, they were not recorded. Now a link on the council's website will make it simple for residents to record the details.

Cllr Kelly put a formal question to the council at a meeting on 13th December and on questioning further, the chairman of the Social Committee (within whose remit the matter falls) agreed that an on line reporting system was a good idea.

No date has been set so far, but rest assured that the Lib Dems will be making sure this does actually happen!
