Nonsuch Park Awareness Day 2010

August 27, 2010 6:00 AM
Nonsuch Mansion

Nonsuch Mansion lies at the heart of beautiful and historic Nonsuch Park

Following the success of the first Nonsuch Park Awareness Day in 2009, a repeat event will be held on Sunday 12 September 2010 from 11am to 4pm, offering a free, active and educational day out for dog walkers, cyclists, walkers and visitors of all ages and interests in this beautiful parkland, which lies between London Road, Ewell and Ewell Road, Cheam.

Nonsuch Park Awareness Day is a joint event run by Epsom & Ewell Borough Council and London Borough of Sutton who are both responsible for the Park and Mansion House. The Chairman of the Nonsuch Joint Management Committee, Sutton Councillor Graham Tope, said: "Nonsuch Park is loved by many and the Awareness Day is a fantastic opportunity for the whole family to celebrate its past, present and future as well as find out about the wide range of activities the Park hosts throughout the year."

A range of events are planned for the day:

  • To celebrate the annual Heritage Open Days (when a number of venues around the Borough open their doors to the public), the Friends of Nonsuch will be offering guided tours of both the Mansion and the Museum;
  • Dog owners can get advice on micro-chipping, healthy eating and exercise for dogs from Trophy Pet Foods and free training and behavioural advice for dogs from CK9 training. Vets will also be on hand to carry out check-ups from 12 - 2.30pm;
  • For cyclists, there will be free cycle training and tours around the park and a chance to get a cycle MOT with Dr Bike check-ups;
  • Children can test their skills on the British Military obstacle course;
  • Families can join a fitness walk with Fit 4 Baby at 11.30am, have a go at Orienteering or just relax and watch the Tai Chi and BMX demonstrations;
  • A guided nature walk to enjoy the beautiful parkland surroundings will be led by nature conservation group, Nonsuch Watch at 2.30pm;
  • There will be an opportunity to find out more about bees, with the Surrey Beekeepers Association;
  • Another feature will be an opportunity to take a look into the world of a wood turner. Items from the wood found in Nonsuch Park will also be available for purchase;
  • Surrey Police will be on hand to demonstrate a police car and have a chat;
  • Local residents may wish to get involved with the Nonsuch Rotary Club;
  • Visitors will have the chance to meet Nonsuch Mansion's new caterers, Bovingdons;
  • Visitors will also be able to talk to members of the Nonsuch Park Joint Management Committee about their ideas for the Park.
