Update on Rosebery School Planning Application

There is so far no firm news about the formal inquiry to be held by a Planning Inspector into Rosebery's appeal against Epsom & Ewell Planning Committee's refusal of their application to build 72 new dwellings accessed from Rosebank on part of the school playing field, known locally as the Cabbage Patch. It is understood that current delays in holding planning inquiries are such that it might be autumn before this one is heard, but on the other hand efforts are being made to reduce delays.

Meanwhile we can report that Cllr Colin Taylor was amongst those who wrote to the Planning Inspectorate about this appeal. The decision to refuse planning permission was contrary to the planning officers' recommendations contained in their report, so he wanted to explain in more detail than could be included in the formal minutes of the Planning Committee, the background to the planning considerations on which his successful proposal to refuse the application was based.

Colin also urged the Inspector to hold a public inquiry in Epsom, rather than dealing with the matter by correspondence, and whilst here, take the opportunity to see at first hand the traffic conditions at the West Street junction and the marked difference in ground levels between the Cabbage Patch site and the adjacent development at Meadow Court.
